Jewish Federation of Broward County powered a community-wide listening journey engaging 1400+ community members in telling us what they would like to see for the future of our Broward Jewish community. Using one central question – “What are your aspirations for Broward’s Jewish community, now and for the future?” – we recruited 50 Community Connectors to lead listening forums, host small gatherings, interview Jewish residents, and solicit input online. We learned that engagement is central to all planning; listening is a learned skill; diversifying participation builds buy-in; empowering community members leverages staff resources; and community input can drive decision-making.
